Each year students elected to Phi Beta Kappa nominate their favorite professors for our annual Teaching Award. The recipient is selected by the Phi Beta Kappa officers.
Each year student nominations include a short statement and the names and email addresses of 6 other students who support the nomination are all that is required. The other students are not required to be in Phi Beta Kappa.
This is a heartfelt way to recognize a professor who has made an impact on you and influenced your intellectual and human development.
Congratulations to 2025 Excellence in Teaching awardee Young Mie Kim (Journalism & Mass Communication). Kate Lewicki (2025 PBK inductee) submitted the nomination.
“Dr. Kim embodies the highest ideals of liberal arts and science education and UW-Madison. She encourages critical thinking, fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and challenges her students to apply course concepts to real-world contexts. Her mentorship has not only refined my academic interests but has prepared me to approach legal and media-related challenges with a well-informed, media-literate, research-driven (least-biased-as-possible) perspective.” – Kate Lewicki
